How Our Free Community Notary Program Works

Why We Offer This

Notary services are often needed during life’s biggest transitions — legal paperwork, caregiving, family needs, or moments when time and clarity matter most.

We believe access should never be a barrier, and receiving help shouldn’t depend on circumstance or income.

This service exists because everyone deserves dignity and ease when handling important documents — no explanation required.

When and Where

Nacogdoches Public Library
1112 North Street, Nacogdoches, TX
1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
No appointment required — walk-up service.

Who This Service IS For

Everyone is welcome — no pre-qualification or advance approval is required. If you have personal documents to notarize and want to access a free option, you are invited to use this service.

Requirements and How It Works

To ensure everyone can be served during the library hour, free notarizations are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of three (3) personal documents per person per visit.

This service is intended for single-signer documents that do not require witnesses or additional signers. This helps keep the line moving and allows everyone waiting to be served.

If your document requires witnesses (such as a will or medical directive), you are welcome to bring your own witnesses with valid ID. Sometimes other patrons generously volunteer to witness for one another, but this cannot be guaranteed and is not part of the free service I advertise. If witnesses are not available, the notarization may need to be completed at a different time. Note: Library staff are not permitted to serve as witnesses while on shift per library policy.

If there is no line and time allows, additional documents may be notarized at the notary’s discretion.

Please bring:

  • A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID
  • Complete, but unsigned documents
  • The signer present
  • Personal documents only (no business or commercial notarizations)

When You Need More Time and Support

If your document requires multiple signers, witnesses, privacy, or additional time, you can schedule a Mobile Notary appointment instead. This allows us to meet at a private location, accommodate more complex documents, and ensure everyone involved has the time and support they need.
